Will Elon Musk shut down the phone line?

Ana sayfa / News

Elon Musk, who bought Twitter last year, has made many changes to the company since then. Not only did Musk change the name of the company to X, but he also introduced many new features to the platform. One of them is the ability to make voice and video calls via X. It is claimed that if this feature becomes widespread enough, we will no longer need a phone line to make calls.

Elon Musk announced in his post on X that he will soon share his phone number with everyone. Musk claimed that he will only make calls through X’s voice call feature from now on, stating that he no longer needs a phone line. However, the fact that only subscribers paying a monthly fee of $8 can make calls on the platform strengthens the claims that this is just a marketing strategy.

Furthermore, the decision to completely abandon phone lines doesn’t seem quite possible from a security standpoint. Many digital features we actively use today require SMS verification. For example, when we make a big purchase with our bank card, getting confirmation with a small SMS code greatly reduces security risks.

What does Musk think about Apple Vision Pro?

In his latest statement on Twitter, Elon Musk announced that he was testing Apple Vision Pro. So what does he think about the new glasses?

Even Musk’s own platform, X, requires SMS verification for premium user authentication. While it seems quite reasonable to use X occasionally for voice and video calls, it might not be very sensible to stop using a personal phone line for this reason.
